Motor Vehicle Reports
While it may be easy to identify unsafe drivers while on the road, it may be impossible to tell if a job applicant has had legal problems due to driving when reviewing applications. Motor Vehicle Record searches are conducted for a variety of reasons when conducting pre-employment screening. Organizations should request these records for all employees who will be driving in any capacity. A wealth of information can be obtained including license validity, driver’s history, and offenses.
State Driving Record
Understanding a future employee’s attitude on the road is integral if they will be representing your company while driving. This check may include validation status, license class, and restrictions. Any related accident and violation information is provided. This check is performed via the state licensing authority and typically includes a three to 5 year history depending on state.
Nationwide CDL search (CDLIS)
CDLIS allows employers to comply with FMCSA requirements ( § 391.21-391.27) by searching the commercial Driver’s License Information System for current CDL, prior licenses and up to 3 prior licenses held by the applicant.
